No Escape

by SiLeNtLy ScReAmInG   Apr 25, 2010

The shadows play across the wall,
Fear floating stagnant through the air,
Breathing comes in shallow gasps,
Footsteps fall, once again he's there.

A heart hammers inside its fragile cage,
Louder and louder in the deafening silence,
Its thunderous beating, an act of treason,
Accomplice to her forced compliance.

The seconds drag out like hours,
And footsteps refuse to retreat,
She tenses when the doorknob turns,
Cringing as wood and rib cage meet.

A voice slips through a widening crack,
Despite efforts to keep the doorway shut,
False assurances pour from his tongue,
But a nauseous feeling fills her gut.

Persuasion turns to threats,
Panic floods through every vein,
She clings to every last drop of strength,
Bracing herself for the oncoming pain.

this is my favorite stanza, this poem is really really good poem.

If only she could just get away
    forget her past, forever more.
and find a love she welcomes in
one where she opens the door.

1 for 1... I'd like to read more of yours.
