Lust

Lust
By Mark Spencer

The lustful eye covets the flesh,
Its thirst can't be sated.
The unrelenting throbbing of
Hunger unabated.

Its ceaseless ache subdues the soul,
And holds conscience at bay.
The Lord and His morality,
Only get in its way.

So keep your God out of its sight,
Lust wants no part of Him.
Remove Him from the public eye,
And let His light grow dim.

Then lust can rule the world again,
Just like in Roman times.
When the laws of morality,
Could not define our crimes.

For sex was recreational,
It meant no more or less.
Until the time of Christian rule,
When sex would be repressed.

Is man not just an animal,
More of flesh than of soul?
And don't the matters of the flesh,
Define his every goal?

We lust for pleasures, and for wealth,
We lust for power too.
We lust for things that make us feel,
That we have more than you.

We are awash in earthly things,
Lust's purpose is complete.
The moral ways of bygone days
Have fallen in defeat.

The soul with which mankind was blessed,
Has all but turned to dust.
The righteousness he once possessed,
Has been replaced by lust.
