Cruel-hearted Lover

by Tori Hicks   May 9, 2010

You lured me in with your charming laugh
And killed me with your smile.
Over time, draining love from me,
You fed your greedy hunger.
Putting on a facade,
As if I'd never find out;
When we kissed and laid in bed
It was her you thought about.
Waiting, hunting, biding your time,
Your words turned into strangling vines.
Wishing, loving, hurting inside,
I believed you when you cried.
I trusted you, loved you;
Gave up everything for you.
You walked away, yielding crocodile tears,
But I couldn't foresee what pain would come.
A tragedy, yet necessity, you called our parting;
Then why do you go to her now?
You claim you cannot have someone,
But you sure as hell have her!
Separating the truth from your lies
Is like separating oil and water.
How do I approach you
Without seeing your love for her in your eyes?
How can you expect me to remain your friend
When everything I know could be lies?
Where's the trust, the dignity, the kindness
You once possessed?
You say you're there if I need you,
But I can't drag an ounce of understanding from you.
Who are you, I must ask;
You're nothing like I imagined you could ever be.
You're a cruel-hearted lover
Who's ruined me.
