Poison of Love.

by Courageous Dreamer   May 11, 2010

Prescribed to cure loneliness;
I was given your love;
a beautiful heart to call my own.

oh, how excessively
I drank your love..
doubts dissolved with each sip;
the taste unbelievable;
an addiction.

had I known I was only
consuming liquefied trickery...
would I not have stumbled to death.

who knew passionate expressions
could be this disastrous?

they crushed all my confidence;
every intention of happiness-
they destroyed my soul.

had I known of the side effects-
I wouldn't have fallen...

    Love can be a poison to us especially when it is not returned as we think it should be. Well done.

    Your poem is easy to identify with and flows well until the last half of the poem where it becomes just a touch clunky, a little tweaking here and there and I think the entire poem would be quite excellent. Still a good read with a great usage of drugs as a metaphor for love. Well done :)

    Wow! This really tore at my heart. Love can be the most beautiful experience in our life or the most painful. When love is not returned to us in the same way we give it the pain can be almost unbareable. You did a excellent jod describing your feelings.
    Great piece.

    Love can be a poison someone gives us but it turns out that it was all a lie or as you put it love is a poison. The emotions could be felt throughout this piece. Good job and keep writing.
