Path to Oblivion

by Anthony M   May 24, 2010

The phone had fallen silent
leaving me alone with my fears,
she had gone into the void
existing now only in my mind.

Still I held out hope for her return
knowing that I was fooling myself
but allowing the facade just the same,
reality knocking on my door, ignored.

Sitting motionless on the couch
unable to move, unshaven and numb
empty whiskey bottle distorting
my view of her picture on the table.

Hours, maybe days pass by
my paralysis has taken root,
there is no pain, there is nothing
as my existence fades into obscurity.

Very deep and intense emotion from this piece.

    Hours, maybe days pass by
    my paralysis has taken root,
there is no pain, there is nothing
as my existence fades into obscurity.

After the pain of losing someone we love. Our feelings become numb. Helping to mask the pain. Does it ever really disappear?
    Great job!
    Take care

I thought that this was a great poem. You describe the feelings of a lost love so well that I can imagine myself right in that place.
