The River Flows

by Katy Nicholson   May 26, 2010

If I were a river,
I would lick the feet of those who set at my edges
I would cool the air at dawn with my icy breath that accompanies the wind
I would give the creatures drink to hydrate their mystical bodies
Like city streets, I would flow in several directions
And I would house all of the fishes and underwater beings that might need a place to stay
But if I were a river,
I would never surrender my cold liquid mass to the sun's warm absorbency and the sky's tricky evaporation
