Pains of the Mind

by Danielle   Jun 4, 2010

Saddened thoughts consume her
Once again her dreams are crushed
This year is no better than the last
Tears moisten the hair neatly brushed

Trying to hide the pain she feels
She puts on a smile to the world
Forgetting the thoughts of lost dreams
She shows only happiness to her little girl

The beautiful prom dress is now gone
Long returned to the mall store
The tux too has been returned
Because, what do they need it for?

Walking across the graduation stage
Is a mere forgotten wish
There just isn't enough money for it
Once again...there's a loss of bliss

School will be over soon
All the wretched memories will be forgotten
Hopefully college will be better
Hopefully all the memories will become rotten

A very sad story about the high school stage in our lives. I just loved this poem... It was a classic rhyming scheme of abab, the 4 lines stanza made the flow solid. The imagery words you used really gave the heavy feeling of this harsh stage. The graduation, as the final stage of this period, was used here more than once, to emphasize the awaited end. A marvelous piece, nothing less than a 5/5
