Pearl

by Sylvia   Jun 14, 2010

There was a girl name Pearl,
her skin, painful from a sunburn, was all red..
Went to a party, played a game,
spin the bottle, give a kiss.
Laughter rang out,
Pearl had to retreat with great sorrow,
face turned crimson, even her lips were burnt.

She let out a scream in frustration,
wild with momentary embarrassment.
With great effort, she challenged herself
to a new beginning.
Good intentions and optimistic
that she could succeed, banish dismal despair.

Pearl yelled, I want an ice cube
to cool these hot lips of mine.
With a delicate touch,
she kissed that cube with passion.
Hope did shatter because her lips froze.
Valuable lessons learned,
stay out of the sun,
never kiss an ice cube.
