Your Sorry Soul

by Countess of Monte Cristo   Jun 18, 2010

You are not made of stone,
For even the stone smoothens throughout time.
Your dead conscience is the one to blame,
Allowing yourself to be corrupted is your crime.

I don't know who you think you are,
Acting and speaking the way you do.
Believe me, despite the act that you put out,
Everyone knows damn well you're a fool.

You have failed as a human,
You have failed in every social role.
Lord have mercy on your existence,
And on the big gap inside your soul.

As much as I despise you,
I immensely pity you indeed.
Because the hard fall follows a high rise,
From the consequences of your actions you must take heed.

Don't raise your head too high,
Lest you fall flat on your face.
Time eventually forgets people like you,
Your memories in eternity it will rapidly erase.

So lord have mercy on your sorry soul,
As much as I despise you, I pity you indeed.
And remember that before falling hard without a recovery,
A high rise to the top must precede.

*Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
-- Proverbs 16: 18-19

I have to agree with Anthony's comment on this one. I have read it several times and each time from a different perspective of the writer. Nice to have choices when reading. Well done.

Interesting conundrum you present here; in lambasting someone for their actions we often inadvertently reveal an air of superiority whilst licking our wounds. Self-preservation really. I liked the way this was written, it was easy to imagine what terrible things the subject may have done, but I found it more intriguing to think about what the speaker of these words had gone through emotionally to inspire the contempt.
The flow and rhyming worked quite well too, nicely done :)
