The Ties That Bind

by bob   Jun 23, 2010

We've been together since our college years
We've had good times and shed some tears
Raised two kids ready to go out on their own
I should be happy but how could've I known

My conflict the answer, I've thought it all through
It's not that I don't love her, because love her I do
It's hard for me to accept, although I know that it's true
I simply don't love her, the way I love you

Every time the phone rings, I hope it's you on the line
After just minutes of talking, my life seems so fine
I'm so confused all the time, I'm twisted and torn
All that's keeping me here is the fear of their scorn

It's hard when there's children, regardless of age
You led by example, your life's like a stage
They think you're a model, for their life to lead
How could I face them with this - no way to succeed

The ties to one woman aren't so simple to break
So I'll act like I'm happy, she won't know it's fake
And when I'm with her I'll be wishing it's you
I don't see an out - what else can I do?

This is a very sad poem. A hope that you find a way to make yourself happy. There comes a time in people's life (mine came and passed) where love is not enough. It seems to me that you love her, but are not in love with her. I think it's very sad that this woman does not know. Though, in her heart, I'm sure she knows. I hope your example to your children is to live their lives for themselves and not in a prison of others' happiness.

Pretence, is the weakest lie told. Passion, answers all desire.
