The Dusty Road

by Timothy   Jun 26, 2010

1st Verse:
What a wonderful surprise,
Can't remove the shock from my eyes;
A beautiful girl, so perfect,
There was never a better time I can recollect.

Holding her in my arms,
I soaked in every bit of her charms;
But in truth, I was on shaking knees,
And a part of me just wanted to flee.

Chorus:
Will she remember me?
Long after I leave?
I gotta take the dusty road,
It takes you far from your home;
When times get tough, and everything is in disarray,
The dusty road will whisk you away.

2nd Verse:
I didn't come back for so many years,
I missed the happiness, and I missed the tears;
Seeing my baby as a woman was so very strange,
I guess I thought leaving meant nothing would change.

She rejected me, and I grew old,
I have no one, and my story is about all told;
I'm dying, and I can't sit still in this old abode,
I put on my hat, and once again meet that old dusty road.

Repeat Chorus:

Will she remember me?
Long after I leave?
I gotta take the dusty road,
It takes you far from your home;
When times get tough, and everything is in disarray,
The dusty road will whisk you away.

    If that poem is true, then hold on to the precious memories you have of your baby, and they will bring you happiness even on your darkest days.
