Thank You For What You Gave

by Bradley Peter   Jul 12, 2010

Do you remember way back when?
When life was simpler and carefree?
I reminisce every now and then,
And take a look at the old me,

The things I used to do,
The way I used to sound,
Wow, how that time flew,
And got buried in the ground,

But it's good to dig up the past,
Sometimes, I believe,
Other times aren't meant to last,
And clearly, we should leave,

But I'm talking about the good days,
The times that made you smile,
And still do in so many ways,
If only just for just a while,

Take for instance, this website,
Which at one time was my all,
And all the poems that I'd write,
For your loving votes, I recall,

But now, as I journey back,
To all the words I strung along,
I'm actually taken aback,
At how I was admired for so long,

My rhymes were rarely clever,
My flows were textbook stuff,
My words were never forever,
But for you, I was enough,

I laugh at the atrocity of some,
And admire the skill of others,
But whatever I may've become,
I hope I inspired others,

For the English language, to me,
Is the most beautiful of things,
It can capture and set free,
But to me, it's joy that it brings.

Wow, I am so glad I have come across this one. Awww, I love your sentiments here. It brought back a lot of feelings when this site was my life too. The last stanza is just so beautiful. My heart agrees with it very much.

I didn't remember this piece at all, and at first I believed it was another person. Even I was surprised when I realised it was about myself, my poems and my relationship with this site. I think the last three stanzas were the strongest, which is good. A good finish leaves a better impression. Anyway, thank you once again, Mel, for bringing a forgotten relic back into the frame
