Good things never last

by Countess of Monte Cristo   Aug 28, 2010

I visit this place again
Which once reminded me of you
Back then I felt the dawn of a new love blooming,
Something that I thought would last and be true.

Months passed and I realized things changed,
In the middle of the journey I was left alone.
When I thought desperation turned to something worse,
I realized a new me was born.

Yes, there are a lot of questions,
And yes, curiosity will stay.
But I have two choices left,
Either to remain in the dark or move away.

The journey was a tough one,
I now know what silence betrayal can do,
You either learn to move on,
Or else it will destroy you.

And here I am at this place,
Summer time and the landmark so very dark,
Last winter, of which feels like a million years away,
This place witnessed a loving spark.

I shall say no more of that fake declaration,
When you held my hand so tight.
Everything went wrong so terribly,
When I finally thought I chose right.

And now I return to my car,
Looking good but staring at the ground.
Smiling to my destiny,
And towards the memories that this place surrounds.

So many questions in my head,
So many answers needed fast.
But, here I am, smiling, and shaking my head,
Telling myself that good things never last.

*After a four month and a half writing hiatus, this is my comeback poem. Let it speak for me..
