The Actor

by Bradley Peter   Aug 30, 2010

A humble puppet of the puppeteer,
Do this, do that, and please stand here,

Say this, this time with an upward infliction,
Work on your articulation, voice and diction,

Slaves to the direction, slaves to the writing,
Night after night of the same old reciting,

Slaves to the audiences. Slaves, slaves, slaves,
They criticize and reject in waves, waves, waves,

Pay for an audition to say how crap you are,
Just to get that sliver of a chance of being a star,

But when you stand on that stage and take a bow,
The applause makes it all okay somehow.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I did, too. It was like reading it for the first time. I am actually an actor, so reading this is putting the cogs in my brain into motion.
