Blink

by prejudice is the child of ignorance   Aug 31, 2010

Flutter flutter tweet tweet
the taste of your innocent elegance is so sweet
mutter in my ears the surrender of your sorrows
raise the white flag that will liberate us
from the never ending torture of distance and miscommunication
because I know you and your intricacies
I know how you walk and the gentle swagger you carry
In your pocket tied up with the strings of lives
the scissors you use so gentle
I know the smirk on your face
And the mischief that nobody blames you for
I know your laughter
The reality of humor as it tickles your throat
As the sound of majestic symphonies escape you
And when you'd rather not fake it
I know the arch of your eyebrow that means happiness
A slighter arch 2 degrees more
And I see Atlas, holding up the world
As you do with a genuine smile

Remember the first time we met?
Because I really do but it wasnt then that I fell for you
No, the day I crashed into Cerberus' cave was different
And as I landed, there was too much to handle
Unknown land so dark and unventured
Hills and mounds of anticipation leading to this point
Where I swore I would never return
Where I prayed to devious Aphrodite to never bless me again
And yet I found myself there

You never made it there, I know this for a fact
And if you did I never found you
Because I travelled those hills meticulously
Exploring and venturing every nook and cranny
Every memory and every dream ive had since childhood
I looked in the nights of debauchery and bad decisions
In the ant-holes from which I came out with a billion bites
But not until I had searched for you down to the smallest pixel
And those bites were nothing compared to when I left his cave
But he himself never attacked me
All three heads of torture waited patiently for someone else
Someone who wasn't torn with desperation and infested with paranoia
Paranoia paranoia paranoia that you would never show

How fast that shit comes true
Through the snow I sat, awaiting better times for you
Deciding that you deserved fairer weather
So that water lilies could accompany you as you swam
Flower petals could sweep the dust off your heart
And you would realize that you belonged here
I made a wonderful place to welcome you
Filled with hopes and aspirations with no limitations
Filled with the magic of thousands of wishes
Made on shooting stars accompanied by Andromeda herself
And all because you said you would show
Or so I thought, or so I made myself believe
I thought I could read you like an open book
Your mannerisms were carved into my brain
Because when you opened your heart to me
And when we looked into each others eyes
Yours were not empty
They showed a gleam of coy misconception
I looked into your past and had dinner with your insecurities
I took your fears to the movies and held their clammy hands with assurance
I braided the hair of your childhood demons
Cleaned out that closet where creepy crawlies scared you
I hosted your worries and pampered your every tear
Encompassed bad memories in pleasantries
We built a safe out of infinite emotions
Those that don't or shouldn't break so fast:
Trust, friendship, love honesty, sympathy, happiness
We locked up our pasts and went window shopping for a better future

But you never came
And in my brain is still engrained that book of your mannerisms
All but one, my Achilles heel, the one that didn't break my back but sure tore my heart to pieces
In your eyes lived hope and dreams and I got lost in them
I knew them front and back, inside out and upside down
All I had left to learn about was the language of the last motion
How to decipher what changed
how I am right back where I started last time
last time, until something caught me off guard
because as I dove deeper into the brown pools of velvet that are your eyes,
you blinked
