Creatures of the Hidden Lands

by silvershoes   Sep 3, 2010

Leapt forth into the burning flames
The steed ripped in his reigns
With demon mounted, whip-cracked
On his back, dressed all in black

Halted fast with drawn up head
He sped around; a coat of lead
To stare down any wicked fiend
And host of hell, thus convened

So he forward, boldly stepped
Awakened that once had long slept
Great kraken deep in his cave
Spite contempt across the knave

Then the sword, he drawn it forth
And there it pointed surely north
As the beast lurched on to grasp
A hiss exhumed; a wicked rasp

Then fiery battle, blood and scorn
Fight to death had thus been born
With monster quick upon his heels
And tentacles fast upon their wheels

Crashing down came cobble walls
Collapsing fast did marble halls
Rumbling fierce and fierce relentless
Fires of hell comparative, endless

Sudden shone down a glorious light
For a moment, they ceased to fight
Fiend or kraken, though they try
Were blinded by the whited sky

A mighty voice then bellowed deep
Frozen tracks, the tentacles creep
Trembling hooves of ebony steed
Words that both were forced to heed

"Creatures of my hidden lands
Bend your furious ancient hands
Lay this vengeance to its rest
Know that both of thee are best"

Light that blazed then fled back
But who should then resume attack?
He himself with granted words
Shepherd of the earthly herds

Bolts that crackled pierced the clouds
Split the ground in hazy shrouds
Then back the demon on his horse
And back the kraken with remorse

A hundred leagues, a canyon formed
Thunder bolts, how well it stormed
Screaming beasts were thrown far apart
Still fury welled within each dark heart

'But soon I will return, great kraken
Journey under rocks and bracken
To flay your burning flesh alive
And back your ugly self to drive!'

A hiss across the cavernous falls
Over shattered walls and broken halls
Whispered breath, the serpent he
'No, not mine whose death shall be!'

Thus sworn to one day meet again
Hidden deep in the Kraken's den
Demon destined to ever stalking
In the nighttime, his steed is walking

Long the roundabout; long the trail
But it is writ one will prevail
In some centuries, hence the fight
When enemies are due to reunite

This was a great poem in the from of a story. A truly dark poem with good descriptions of your characters and a flow to match. Their was a great deal of creativity that one could see in this piece as well. And as Nana already said, the ending stanza was great. How old enemies will once again reunite. Good job and keep writing.
