When I was the greatest hero....

by Mr Rhee   Sep 6, 2010

Do you ever think back
to the days of young?
When being a child meant
just being a child?

When all the things
around you were always new?
When the world was
always full of adventure?

There were places to
go to, and conquer.
There were places to
find new riches in.

Each floating piece of wood
was a big, new, ship.
Each piece of paper
was the fastest plane ever.

Always, always, building
your new cities.
Always, always, building
the new space ports.

You were the hero
bringing new hope.
You were the evil villain
bringing more despair.

Mirrors were magical
doors to magical lands.
Mirrors were portals
to secret lairs.

How wonderful to
be a child back then.
How wonderful to
be a child once more.

Take me back to my youth,
so I may live again.
Take me back to my childhood,
so I may have my magic back.

Bring the happy times
I remember always having.
Bring the great moments
when I was the greatest hero.

I wish I could go back,
and stay young forever.
I wish I could stay young,
and never feel age.

I would lose myself
on a top secret mission.
I would find myself
on a new plane of existence.

Let me go, once more,
and be that child.
Let me go, once more,
and be happy again.

I really like this, now I may only be 20 but I still have some concept of that childhood being gone, and the nostalgia for it. Your piece here hits lots of spots, I especially loved the part about each piece of wood being a ship, because I totally imagined that all the time as a kid. Very well done, I also like the concise manner of your stanzas, yet they keep there poignant characteristics. Good job.
