Up Before the Sun is Old

by sibyllene   Oct 4, 2010

Up before the sun is old
A wheeling car, a curving road,
The sky alights in autumn sparks
And branches burnishing to gold

Country houses, porch and shutter,
Wooden planks and rusty clutter,
Flanked by oaks with leaves that flutter-
Bright as sunrise, butter bold

A cleanly scrubbed and rural morning-
Past the fences, cows are lowing:
Piebald creatures dotting ditches,
Colors russet, black, and cream

They turn to streaks, I pass them by,
Flashes from a fading dream:

The toll of living,
chasing roads.

Your grammar is flawless as always. I'm jealous. I must say, you are divine at painting pictures. I don't see myself in your poems however. I see YOU. Quietly spirited, profoundly gifted Sibby-wibby drifting in the rural setting of a crisp dawn in a quaint Irish town.
    Yep, that's what I see.
    "cows are lowing"
^ I really wish I knew what 'lowing' meant, but this line is great, especially because I don't know what it means... but I can feel it. I understand it.
    Boy, aren't words interesting?

    Ok, good job. 5/5

    Sounds like my neighborhood, too....

    though one bit
    is different.......
    I rarely drive around now....
    takin' a break @ 65..
    chuckles....

    ...you see and deliver poetry
    where it is, Dear,
    Everywhere, Anywhere...
    Bravo.

Mhh, I am becoming quite a fan of your work:)

This verse had much spunk in it, don't know if you know what I mean, lol. It had verve and good wording, nice how it rhymed in a unique way.

    I absolutely adored this part.
