The Yard

by Keleena   Oct 9, 2010

Some walk like dogs, they think they own it all,
Some sweat like hogs, they'll stab you when you fall,
Macho punks show off their tattoo,
Pretend they're tough, so you won't see through.
Some will whisper acid licks into your ear,
To get a laugh and create nightly fear,
Others stay to themselves unless you intervene,
Others prefer to see how loud you can scream.

This is the society, out here in the yard,
Throw out propriety, and don't call the guard,
Keep moving, eyes down but not to low,
Last thing you need is another foe,
Push yourself in, and don't see this outside,
Melt your face to stone and learn how to hide.
Pretend you don't care, and let your mind wander away,
Until you can escape, right in the broad light of day.

The paths you came down, and the darkness you travel through,
Take a shovel to the ground, dig the hole where they'll bury you.
Your little slip up made you pay a high consequence,
When you traded your freedom for this chain link fence,
You know it can't filter out the air,
But it smells sweeter from the other side.
Your eyes can only drift and stare,
To the horizon over which they glide.
While you stand and wait for your life to run by,
Ever so slowly count the days till you die.
