The Drug Addict...

by Dreamofolwin   Oct 19, 2010

The terror of a drug addict is seen in his eyes....
His face that is sunken, can't hold up a disguise.
The dark eyes staring, what fear they do hold;
and ashen skin so grey, pitiful to behold.

The grip, the hold sustained; by this cruel tyrant's grasp.
is hard to loosen, seeming an impossible task....
and to those who know its bondage, whoever they may be;
is a deep, deep desire from this terror to be free.

    Excellent poem. I don't know anyone on drugs but from what I have seen in movies this really does depict visually everything that I would imagine being on drugs looks and feels like. Very well rhymed, strong visuals and emotionally compelling loved it Milly x

    Any addiction is hard to get over.

    You write well about the 'impossible task' of giving up and the 'desire from this terror to be free.'

    Hi Olwin
    I've known a few of these and you describe the condition very well. You also paint a very unattractive picture of life as a drug addict for anyone reading - and that makes this an important piece. When importance can be mixed with art, it is true art in my opinion.

    There are many Theives that rob us of our senses and humanity...none more than the drugs supplied by the cartels and Mr Jones next door....Well penned Olwin

    Excellent poem, Olwin! I like the way portray drug addiction as a tyrant. Because it is, in the worst way. Like TJ, I knew someone who died of an overdose, right in the front yard of my house some years ago. In Florida, where I moved from, dozens die the same way all the time. They have a nickname for this problem: Pharmageddon!
