Never will I ever forget my papaw's smiling face,
His eyes wide with knowledge,
Possessing wisdom of the world that I hope to one day grasp a hint of
Never will I ever forget my papaw's calloused hands,
Proof of a lifetime of labor and dedication to provide for his family,
Giving all he has so they do not have to,
A humble sacrifice the world may never come to know
Never will I ever forget my papaw's melodic voice
Soft and sweet when spoken toward my grandmother
Yet wild and full of excitement when speaking of the war
Never will I ever forget my papaw's loving heart
Always stopping to show kindness to others
Giving a smile to those who go without
Never will I ever forget my papaw's last few days,
In the house where he made a home,
Surrounded with people he loves,
Trying to hang on for the sake of those he would leave behind
Never will I ever forget my papaw's final breath,
Deep and peaceful we watched him let go, content with knowing it was not the end
But the beginning of eternity spent in Heaven.
