You, Poet.

by sibyllene   Oct 21, 2010

You, poet,
with your toes clenched in river mud
and your eyes grazing the cloudtops,
tracing the arc of birds that flock and lift
as one pulsing, pointillist body
(leaping like the heart of dancer stretching
before the first beat)
from one feathered treetop to the next...

You, poet,
who sometimes charms
words as though they were vipers (they writhe
into place and sway, glittering,
to elusive rhythms that
set jeweled eyes
to light)...

You. Poet.
With your eye and your tongue
and your heart that's too big,
far too big to be filled
by even the whole world's wild aching splendor
(like an opera house that dies
every evening at finite), you are
starving still for more,

so you,

lonely poet,
who can love nothing
until you make it beautiful;
petty poet,
with a curio of fancies
that will never satisfy;
you, poet,

will never in a lifetime feel as true
as the ink that stains your pages.

    They have it wrong. You were speaking directly to me. I know it. Very good. I even had to look up pointillist so i am better educated than when i started reading it.
    I love your style.
