We sat in silence on beach sand,
our eyes meeting each other
as occasional breaks
from staring at the stars.
Your hat was over my messy hair.
You drew a heart next to me
with your finger
and rubbed wet, sparkling sand
across my face.
I laughed
and your eyes smiled at me.
Your kiss upon my cheek
did not come soon enough.
Our fingers were laced
and what I wanted most
was for you to just stay.
Holding back tears,
I looked at the sky.
Stars again.
Your embrace
lifted me from the ground,
the ground that I'm losing.
I miss your hearts in the sand.
