Watch, Young Abigail

by Sarah   Oct 22, 2010

The blaming of others
Happens all the time
Witch trials were no different
I'll explain it in rhyme

Where we'll begin
Is at the intolerance of others
Practicing black magic
And planning to smother

The accused were innocent
In a bad time and place
And now witchery is related
To those poor souls' face

The accusers were ignorant
And yet people still paid
Lives were the currency
Corpses that decayed

So watch, young Abigail
As these people are hanged
And when we think of the deaths
We'll remember your name

For this wasn't their fault
They lived their life silently
Until your absurd accusations
Resulted in killing so violently

In my U.S. History class, we're studying the Salem Witch Trials (in case you couldn't tell) and one of the projects we could do was interpret the quote, "Today, those who suffered persecution are viewed as victims of ignorance, intolerance, and prejudice," so this is my interpretation.
