Sent to her the Key

*****
All of my poems are going to be based around one central poem, so if you want to get the full context and meaning of this poem you may find it useful to read "The Ivory Towers" first. Note that the title of this poem is taken from the 4th Stanza of Part IV in "The Ivory Towers". Thanks for reading.
*****

There is a poem I once wrote that surpassed my others,
A single page of lines and words from a different time.
A river of emotions that scratched its intensity into being,
A life of feeling converged into a single flowing point.

There is a poem I once wrote that I cannot recall,
Not a stanza, not a line, not a phrase, not a word.
Yet its memory is as clear to me as yesterday,
Every sound, every sight, every sense, every feeling.

There is a poem I once wrote that gave me a choice,
A key sent from an empty mind and an empty heart.
To be returned from an unlocked mind and open heart,
A key which I didn't need to send to her at all.

There is a poem I once wrote that I'd love to read,
To see a crumpled page and tear-stained ink.
To repossess all that it wrenched from me,
To unfurl the emotions from those flattened words.

There is a poem I once wrote that changed my life,
Yet not once have I regretted its creation.

I thought this was a lovely write, i did not even mind the repeating line, sometimes that can be the tricky part. I was not sure you needed the word yet in your last line though, that was the only part that through me off for a second.

    Great job.

You are very talented. Very great choice of words. With time, i have learnt onething, that things that came from deep within one's soul, are the things that touches the most. What i admire the most is the fact you can take a simple poem and turns it into a masterpiece, like reading the start of a book that only goes to the middle and waited impatiently to see the end. Very well done. Impressive piece of work, kel.

Many thanks for you honest opinion - I can certainly understand why you find it confusing :)
I'll try and explain as best I can:
    - I can recall every moment of writing the poem and everything that I felt at the time, but not the actual words that I wrote.
    - I say it surpassed my others because if a poem's worth is determined by the feeling that went into it, then this was definitely my best.
    - As for it changing my life, she was due to come and stay with me and I could have waited until she arrived before giving it to her. This was my choice - should I send it to her beforehand? I did and she called me to say she wasn't coming because she couldn't give me the commitment I needed. I have never seen her again since.
    - So sending the poem was the moment when I left "our tower" and sent her the key.
    - Despite all this I have never regretted either writing it or sending it.

Hope this helps you and anyone else who is confused by it.
