Time to laugh

by Ronald Edwards   Oct 26, 2010

You know its funny

Ive often heard it said
relating to occasions
where people end up dead

Is it really funny

take the homeless man
not knowing where hell sleep tonight
acquiring that grayish tan

Is it really funny

when women have to sell
more than just their bodies
moving into hell

Is it really funny

how we like to laugh
at other peoples tragedies
when whole is cut to half

learn how to beg
become a dreg
loose all you have worked for

wander about
end up lost
your lifes an open sore

as long as it is not one of us
we shrug it off in jest
its easier to point and joke
and put it all to rest

so tell me when its not a joke
those lost in lifes insanity
so when should we all give a damn
and show some humanity

I wrote this for so many I bumped elbows with on my journey to where I stand today. I return there looking for them, where have they gone ??????

Its funny how we laugh at people's tragedies ... never understanding their pain and reasons behind their state.

    Hard hitting and thoughtful write.

Thought provoking to say the least. I was impressed by how at first you would ask questions for the reader to read and the lastly you gave a little ramble about how you have seen these people slowly disappearing. An overall good poem with good ideas. Great job and keep writing.

I think some people may laugh out of nervousness, others follow the lead of those around them. There is nothing funny about the situations you wrote about. My thoughts are, but for the Grace of God, go I.
