Running From A Tailwind

Dec. 1st 2007 #94

Did you awaken again this morning
Feeling things aren't how they should be
And did you happen to think it's a warning
Though you look you don't quite see

What to do next, or where you've gone wrong
How to straighten this whole mess out
You've given it your best all along
Of that you have little doubt

So you try to pick up the pace a little bit
Thinking it will all come together in the end
Now is just not the (TIME) to quit
Too many broken objectives to mend

But the problems you see
Or at least the answers your trying to find
Quite possibly might be
The simple things you've left behind

Like time at home with your loved ones
To guide our children through the struggles of today
For our future is held by our daughters and sons
How they perceive what we do and say

It seems we all want a better life
That's what we all set out to find
And somehow get surrounded by stress and strife
And leave the simple things behind

    Jim,
I will check this out on youtube. It has the lyrics for a top selling song. Many emotions, many feelings left unsaid but understood by the reader. As a poem I feel you tried to say to much in a couple of the stanza making it a forced read/rhyme. Sometimes less is more :-) Thanks so much for sharing

This was a really good poem/song. I really liked the ideas you have given us to try and understand and where this poem is going. Also as Sylvia said, many people could easily relate to this. I really enjoyed this poem from the start to the end. Great job and keep writing.

I could apply each verse to things that I have done or had happen in the last few months and days, esp. not know what day it was today. Leaving stress and strife behind is the way to move forward in life, more difficult than it sounds. Enjoyed the entire poem. Well done.
