It's easier to be a number.
The world demands it.
Numbers define us:
numbers on a scale,
numbers that shape us,
whether we want them to
or not.
The world demands us
to fit into smaller jeans:
size 3, 1, 0, negatives,
numbers again,
how convenient.
Paranoid individuals
count calories all day,
while others consume none.
Not everyone's calories stay down.
We have names for those people:
anorexics, bulimics,
and the lucky ones labeled:
eating disorders unspecified
or others
Others?
Which is worse?
Being a number or being an other?
Maybe it is easier to be a number.
The world demands labels.
And we wouldn't want to disappoint the world.
