The Little Heart that Could

by Daz Mellow   Oct 30, 2010

You have a hold on my lust,
But not on my heart.
It lies deep below my skin.
This heart that beats and,
Loves and hates and feels nothing
Towards you because
You have only hands, and

A body... but

This heart that beats and,
Loves and hates and feels, requires
A heart behind the
Hands that touches the skin that
Lies above it, and
Guards it from the elements.
This heart wants to know,

Do you possess a heart? Because

This heart that beats and,
Loves and hates and feels, requires
A soul behind the
Body that lay upon it,
Beside it, with it.
With this body comes the heart
That beats and inquires,

Do you know your soul?

This heart that beats could
Love or hate or still remain
Apathetic to you.
This heart that beats, beats
Loudly, proudly, but
Lonely, isolated and
Hard to get to but...

Within me, the little heart that could.

I like leaving a space between hands and A body in the first stanza.
