Chasing the world

by Alex D   Nov 4, 2010

*I don't usually post my song on here as it's a poetry site but i think this would hold up as a poem so I felt like I'd share*

Don't chase the world and lose your soul
Just say the word, I'll take control
As my mother always told me, the old adage goes
Wisdom's just a little more precious than silver and gold

I could take you at face value, or just evaluate
A fool makes excuses, I'm just running a little late
I'm sitting under your porch light, hoping not to misstate
why I wrestle fate, one mistake, hoping to wipe the slate
I was lost along the way until I found you, gained some breathing space
I was never perfect, I couldn't convince myself with a straight face
but I never felt so close to the unattainable until I lost sight
It's a little past eight darling, just buzz me in, I can do this every night
Just for a while alright?... Alright.

All I need is you in my arms and my guitar
Its taken me a while to untie my knot to the bar
You let me out, Showed me the way out

Don't chase the world and lose your soul
Just say the word, I'll take control
As my mother always told me, the old adage goes
Wisdom's just a little more precious than silver and gold

I hear it soft but clear, a flicker of the tongue, a falling tear
a whisper of bliss, to make us step outside ourselves and escape our fears
I know it seems unclear, seems that I didn't care we were undone
but before we're unsung, can we hit play one last rerun?
The familiar melody would make anyone press restart(warms my heart)
I know it's been a while, but we once topped the chart
My mother always taught me to think straight and act smart
So it'd be ignorant of me to let us break apart(stay apart)
That's what sets me apart.. yeah..

All I need is you in my arms and my guitar
Its taken me a while to untie my knot to the bar
You let me out, Showed me the way out

Don't chase the world and lose your soul
Just say the word, I'll take control
My mother once taught me an old piece of prose
but...
Wisdom doesn't mean shit without you in my arms

This is the first poem in a WHILE that I am giving a comment on, but I really enjoyed this =] The chorus "Don't chase the world and lose your soul
Just say the word, I'll take control
As my mother always told me, the old adage goes
Wisdom's just a little more precious than silver and gold" is just so brilliantly written =]
    Good job.

I would have to disagree with britt. sometimes you need to say a bad word to fully express that one emotion. i cant believe there arent more musicians like you. those lyrics are truly great i wish i could hear you sing them. but either way it was very well written.
