Running Away

by Ronald Edwards   Nov 6, 2010

My bag is packed
with a pillow,
teddy bear and cap.

Should I leave
before cartoons
or after my noon nap?

Milk and cookies
seem the thing
to take with me to eat.

Ill bring a rain coat
if it pours,
goulashes for my feet.

There comes a time
when a young boy
just has to make a stand.

How many no s
to questions asked
should I have to withstand?

The straw that broke
the camels back
came just the other day.

All I asked was
could I paint
my bedroom charcoal gray.

Thats it Im through
and out the door,
adventure waits for me.

But before I go
I should ask Mom
to help me take a pee.

I really enjoyed this. The last line made me smile. it was an enjoyable read:) good job.

I would change the rhyming with

just has to make a stand.

    How many no s
    to questions asked
    should I have to withstand?

It threw me a little off balance

This reminds me of what my brother used to be like. He used to climb up onto my lap when he was sad and cried and told me that "mommy hurt me I wanna leave"...but since all his l's were w's...I thought he said he wanted to weave. I had no idea what he meant. I was about 6...he was 2...it was funny. Love the poem!

Aww, this was a cute and funny poem. It's nice that you write from a perspective of a young boy. I find it difficult to write about a perspective I cannot relate to in any way. Very well done!
