If I Was Your Vampire

by silvershoes   Nov 9, 2010

Ice crystals
fallen in the snow -
our bodies are lighter
when our minds glow.

With amber eyes
golden in reflections
of the sun,
I reach into your
softly beating heart -
secret's undone.

Your ivory skin
is dark, wrapped in
the whiteness of
my cold and callous
shell...

Watching as your
eyelids fall into
serene sleep,
memories
rise and they swell...

There was a time
centuries ago,
when time was
a friend I know.

There was a wheel
that turned
and with it,
a passion that burned
and burned.

This night, my passion burns
again,
but the wheel, it churns on
for better men.

Alas, there is no hope for
us, my lamb,
not for the wretch that
I sorrowfully am.

I could not change
your changing ways,
nor want for dust
in your doleful gaze.

I could not still
your beating heart -
through desire, hope
is a losing art.

The wolf in me would
choose to perish
over feasting on flesh
of the prey
I cherish.

I really found this poem a fresh, new way to go about writing a love "story". You had wonderful imagery in parts and also the flow of the poem was incredible and I don't think that it ever got off track. I saw no force rhyming and I was pulled in from the start to the finish. This poem was different from most you have written and I was glad to see you extend your horizon on what and how you write. All in all, a wonderful poem with a catchy and nice story. Great job and keep writing.
