I Am What I Am

by Fidel Tshivhasa   Nov 17, 2010

... I am what I am
Take me as I am
Dont despise me with your poverty stricken eyes
For you know not what makes me who I am
But I am what I am and not the fickle idea of what you think I am

You damned pea brains!
Woe to you who is barren to the distinctiveness of others
Who cursed you with the folly that burns at the gates of your lips?
Your poisoned heart clenches nothing except a venomous hatred
Alas your own folly shall bury you beneath the thistles of your cursed tongue.

Why do you desire to confuse me with your own delusional perception of me?
Is it either because I dont conform to your standards of being?
Or that I dont confirm to your own idea of me in your seeing?
Why do you blind yourself with your own state of confusion?
If you could just look at me, I am but a man- only a mere being.

I am known only by He who knew me before the foundation of this world
The Orator of my salvation and guardian of my lifes immunity
The rose of Sharon whose name I wear as my badge of identity
And by His blood my inequities are washed by His blood of indemnity
He accepted me as I am and why dont you take me as I am.

I am what I am
Brother, Friend, Protector, and loving Husband & Father to be
But like the man I am, I do make mistakes
It is not my weaknesses which define who I am
Am I not the captor of my own soul and the curator of my own destiny?
Who dares to vindicate me the innocence of my own identity?

I am what I am
Who are you to doubt and limit the freedom of my potential?
I am the quintessence of my own reality
The very essence of my own originality
We all desire to be treated with dignity and equality
Because we are all children of Gods own ingenuity and duality

But I am what I am
I can only be all that I can be
All that you see is what I am
To be who I am is all that I am
This is why I am who I am
Because what I am is what I am

I am what I am
...
...
...
...
... ... ...
