To be Young

by Jessie   Nov 23, 2010

When I was a little girl,
I had the world offered to me
unicorns on dancing clouds
a majestic prince with sparkling eyes

small dolls decorated with hair of yarn
and button eyes that held such life,
gloved hands I held so tightly
dressed in a pretty dress made of felt

a pretty plastic pony, chestnut coat
black mane, brushed long and silky.
We rode through many adventures,
jumped the highest mountains.

Then their was Purr,
the stuffed tiger kitten, bent whiskers
fur clumped in cotton balls
thanks to the washing machine

Tuffy, the small bean filled dog,
accompanied me on my first day of school,
trips to the hospital, his face held love
cried when the real dog chewed his nose off

When I was a little girl, life was simple.
