An Average Kind of City

by Bradley Peter   Nov 28, 2010

Here comes a simple story,
One like many another,
Nothing more special,
Or unique than any other,

It takes place in a city,
Perhaps it resembles yours,
It had people, parks places,
Sidewalks, signs, stores,

It had love and it had death,
It had honour, it had pride,
But within these city walls,
There was a city-wide divide,

Like Capulets and Montagues,
They fought above the law,
They had so much power,
And yet they seeked more,

And do you know what happened,
To these equally matched foes?
Are you intrigued to hear,
Of the destiny that they chose?

They canceled each other out,
Because of a pursuit for power,
And no one heard the screams,
Of the dying in the final hour,

I really like this poem and it's basic lay out made it really easy to get along with. I like the ideas you wrote into this poem as it created a sense of security as we have in our cities but then you have as it were the good and bad of a city fighting it out. I loved it all. :] There were parts that made me see many images that made the poem seem more real as I was able to place myself within it.

"It takes place in a city,

    It had people, parks places,
    Sidewalks, signs, stores,"

This, by far, was my favorite stanza as it is so simplistic and yet one can envision a city with parks and all the other stuff you have said. All in all I was thoroughly impressed with this poem. Great job and keep writing.
