A Poem to the Setting Sun

by NightFlyer   Dec 7, 2010

How sad the clouds that once graced my day
Drift slowly now to the horizon
To fade in twilight's somber shades

How my dreams like the ephemeral clouds, dissipate
Revealing their emptiness in the rainbow skies

So happy and sure
We rode that spinning carousel, my life with you
Now broken against advancing waves of time
Our energies bleeding like the colors
that melt into the relentless darkness

My poem to the setting sun
A last farewell to all we were.

Still, your image smiling in my thoughts,
Floats away like twilight clouds
Across this radiant sunset.

Randy, you combine nature, sadness, love all in one poem and do it beautifully. The sunset closes the book on one day and those memories made only to give way to a sunrise to start building more memories and another day.

A very sad piece that I found to be a very emotional poem. A lot of sadness and pain lurks in between the lines in this poem and it is very evident that this is heart filled. I loved the imagery you used in this poem to describe some of your surrounding, such as the sky in one part. You do a good job with it and make it so real, that one can almost see it. The flow of the poem was really good as well as it gave the reader a good read through without any interruptions.

All in all, I found this a beautifully sad poem that spoke the true heart of someone in pain. Many feelings being torn in this poem. Great job and keep writing.

There is so much heartache and sadness contained in this piece. How painful it is to face when the way things use to be are no longer there. The memories we have to treasure forever.
    Excellent piece.
