I saw just how far I'd come

by A Poets Handwriting aka ALISHA   Dec 16, 2010

I'm sure I'd walked a thousand miles
Just to feel self gratification or success
The only way I thought of that would
Actually clean up all my mess...

When I finally stopped walking,
I saw just how far I'd come
Finally a sense of achievement
It was the most I'd ever done

Tried to run away from all I left
The destruction that I caused
But success was only found
When I had actually paused

Looking back along the road
I saw the sun begin to descend
I've realised I've left the mess
Which I knew I could not mend

I saw just how far I'd come
When I actually took the time
A thousand miles walked
And I noticed the signs

I felt elated with success
I've achieved something good
Somehow, deep inside me
I think I knew that I could

The ending is so wonderful! You have to leave the past behind before you can move forward! Great poem! :) 5/5
