Little Warrior

by Cindy   Jan 3, 2011

What happened to my little boy
With his mischievous grin
Always searching for adventures
Climbing trees, races to win

Days filled with endless magic
Wild animals to hunt and tame
Mud puddles became rivers
Every hour a fun-filled game

Pockets filled with treasures
From places he'd traveled that day
Rocks from the moon, frogs from Mars
Swords of sticks kept aliens at bay

Time, it moves to quickly
Now my baby boy is grown
How I wish we could go back
When you were King on a throne

Ruling over the backyard
With your army of black ants
Our puppy was your jester
Slingshot hanging from your pants

My tired little warrior
Safe and warm in mommy's arms
Would then drift off to sleep
While I kept him from all harm

So many years have come and gone
Now a man stands in your place
Sometimes if I look really hard
I still see my baby's face

    Hi Cindy/ Ben,

This is a lovely poem. A dedication, a snapshot if you like, a parents view on their child's childhood. I wish as many parents do that at we could freeze that time, or at least have it back again. We relive our childhood though our children and then if we are lucky enough again with our grandchildren.

My son is 14 and I sway from wanting his independence and wanting his child form always. Time will have her way as always. Grandchildren for me then...

An enjoyable write and I thank Ben for highlighting this one to me.

    Take care,

    Cindy,
This poem moved me immensely. I have a nine year old boy and, as early as it may sound, I can already see exactly what you're talking about; that little boy is leaving him slowly but very surely.Wonderful.
    All the very best,
    Ben
