I Never Meant To Lie

by Michael D Nalley   Jan 3, 2011

Just try to remember what we had
Baby, we know it didn't start out bad
Now that I am over my rapping rage
I think it is time to turn the page

I never wanted to watch you burn
Maybe we both have a lot to learn
I think I only knew how to dream
When you just seemed to know how to scheme

Never could stand to watch us fry
It was all a lie I would rather die,
Than to see you hurt, or hear you cry
I just hated to have to say good -bye.

Even the times you were often right
I would never let you win a fight
Now it seems like one of my fables
Pushing me into coffee tables

You always make it hurt like it should
Even fallen angels can be good
This passion in my heart does burn
Forgiveness is a thing we can't earn

Cupid loves to watch us struggle
Don't the fallen angels long to snuggle ?
We are sure to pay when we dance
In a fairytale story book romance

Telling lies and giving in to threats
But you know if I was taking bets
You did not want to be on your own
When you asked me to leave you alone

Never could stand to watch us fry
It was all a lie I would rather die,
Than to see you hurt, or hear you cry
I just hated to have to say good-bye

I love poems that throw in cupid and angels when it has a feeling of "tragedy" or heart burns.

    The lines:
You did not want to be on your own
When you asked me to leave you alone

I've never had a chance to put those feelings/experience into smooth sentences, and it made me smile to see it here. It's so truthful that I was nodding my head when I read them.

The one thing that threw me off was the double "burn" you have at the end of a sentence. It was used twice in different context - but thats just me, I think.

    Thank you for sharing.

I reallllllyyy liked this one michael!! Loved the flow! my eyes were just jumping line to line!
When love dies it is a very sad thing...It sucks that one natural thing of life is to experience pain and to know you hurt someone eventually...it happens to the best of us....fallen angels to speak.
    I really enjoyed this write/rant!!

A great read through out... Amazing flow. Relationships can often times be like roller coasters. Up and down, up and down, to end in good bye is sad. But to re- flame in forgiveness is glad. I don't know.... That's what this poem got me think'n about.
    Another wonderful read... Thx mike.
