Yellow Ribbons

by Michael D Nalley   Jan 5, 2011

I think I will write you a love sonnet
With all of the cliche' sugar a spice.
Those pretty flowers for your new bonnet,
All things desirable, beautiful and nice.

On the yellow ribbons there will be knots
To tie us together unconditionally.
Mental images to capture your thoughts,
Songs to sing to you traditionally.

The rhymes will be very free and unforced.
I hope that these written words will ring true,
Even if we're separated, or divorced.
We have fought wars like lovers often do.

Be my lady, I will be your fellow,
Trees are full of ribbons that are yellow.

I really dig the way you show your love for her in this poem. How it starts out sweet and fun. The middle is filled with wonderful rhyme and imagery.. But most of all how all of it burstes into an epic array of ribbons everywhere. Like plugging this poem into a giant amplifier and exploding it's meaning 10 fold. Wonder piece 5/5
