Protect

Protect

The pine saw a lily bloom
And he loved her

When the sun would sear the earth
His thick branches sheltered her from
Brutal rays

When the sky blew cool droplets down
He would stretch over her, keeping her
Safe and dry

When her petals and back began to bow
He loosened his nettles to give her
A comfortable bed

And when she shrank
And faded
Back into the soil
He wondered what he had done wrong.

I agree with minikus this is a very lovely poem. I love the fact that it is listed in love poetry, ( a venue that I rarely browse ) instead of nature. This poem could easily be relative to our relationships in life, though not sure if that metaphor was implied by the author. The one and only hang up I had with this write was the word "loosed". Perhaps it is my southern grammar, but, when reading aloud I wanted to say loosened. However, this is as beautiful of a love poem that I have read on this site regardless of the terminology issue I had with one single word.
Absolutely amazing write and very worthy of a nomination.
