The Perfect Wedding

by Leah   Jan 18, 2011

The wedding will be beautiful
her skepticism will be put to rest
and her first love will be forgotten
her wedding will not be distressed.

And he is picking out her flowers
so happy to one day call her his bride
and the wedding date is creeping closer
so close she wants to scream and hide.

The wedding will be wonderful
the guests will smile as she walks down the isle
and even if her heart thinks about her first love
she hopes it will only be for a short little while.

She'll stare in the face of the man she loves
a perfect, gentle, giving man
and she'll try not to think of her first true love
she'll try as hard and as best as she can.

As she says her vows like a robot
and her soul is in another beautiful place
the wedding is happening, in action
but she's stuck in moments that she can't erase

She's saying "I do" on the outside
on the inside her heart doesn't know
the wedding has beautiful music
her first love's memory gives her a glow.

She dances with her husband on the dance floor
but all the while she wishes she could run away
give up her wedding dress and her rings
run steadily crying as she throws her bouquet.

She throws the flowers while he's on her mind
and she'll never find out that in a row he was there
in the moment of her wedding day with another
their love slipped fast away through the air.

Every stanza was well written. I thought that this told a wonderful story.
