Sinking Together*

Sinking Together

The ship is quickly sinking,
On its ill-fated maiden voyage
Alarm is rising around me,
Fate has damned us all,
Panic is welling up inside me,
The fear is almost tangible.
Please dont leave my side.

I sense the frigid water,
My body is growing numb,
I am so touched by the cold,
My hands are getting stiff, and
I can hear my chattering teeth.
Please dont let me go.

Im getting so tired,
Im losing my breath,
And each one I take is an icy gasp,
Slowly our heartbeats are dropping,
As we are surrounded by a glacial wind,
Please dont let go.

My chest is tight,
As I choke back my tears,
I cannot speak, but you know I love you,
I am filled with this cold uncertainty,
Can we hold on much longer?

We are slowly freezing,
Our skin is pale and bluing,
I will never let you go,
We are together forever,
The ship is almost under,
There was never any hope.

Look around there are similar sights,
This death is inevitable,
Let us go together, die the familiar death,
And I gaze at you; youre peacefully rigid, silent,
Then I look into your eyes, and see a little life,
You are with me still.

We are inseparable, never to be apart,
We are leaving this cold hell together,
Though we were always doomed to
Go down with the Unsinkable Ship.

This poem was written in the horror of how
A lot of people died that night the Titanic went under. A lot of people died by freezing to death
In their loved ones. No, this was not for the couple in the movie, this was for
The actual people that died there
