Perfect Poem [double Sonnet]

by Michael D Nalley   Jan 29, 2011

I tried to write a poem so fine
But it seems I fell a little short
When decided to post on-line
This is what many would report

Rhymes are forced, among the list
I really prefer a freer verse you know
It was so long your point was missed
I will give you an E for effort though

Have you ever tried to write a sonnet?
Your Iambic pentameter was off
You did not put the right title on it
Where is the beef in your Stroganoff?

Should have quit while you were ahead
But you just had to keep writing instead

I believe it was a bit too fluffy
No drama or conflict is boring
Maybe alright for poor Buffy
Sad endings get higher scoring

I'm not familiar with a family affair
I never had a butler or an uncle Bill
It is over my head but I don't care
I am impressed by the run of the mill

Your opinion does not agree with mine
I don't see where you are coming from
I thought I should read between each line
But your metaphors are just dumb

You know you cannot please everyone
Yet, to please just one is a job well done
