I Can Hear You At A Distance

by Lioness   Feb 1, 2011

I can hear you at a distance
Your faint cry overpowers me
I long to hold you in my arms
I yearn for you and it suffocates me

I can't breathe, I hold onto my beating chest
As if I were comforting you
Holding you while you hear my heartbeat
I've wanted you for a long time

I begin to cry, knowing that there's a chance
A chance that I'll never be lucky enough
To be there for you, to love you
Watch over you always

I ache thinking I could never give you to him
Never be able to give him what he wants
What we both want, a child

It's too hard to think that I'll never be a mother
That he'll never be a father
To a child made from the two of us
Made form our love

I can hear you at a distance
You're faint cry overpowers me
But it's only just a dream

This is so moving Liz. You write about such every day situations that mnay people go through and you express the pain of it all so well.

I felt so much sympathy and heartache for you in this one. I liked how you repeated the lines :
I can hear you at a distance
    You're faint cry overpowers me
    - this worked really well and I think it gave the poem extra power to give a double impact on this image.

    Well done.
