Your Reflection

by NineteenMinutes   Feb 8, 2011

I am not real,
Yes, i am made of flesh and blood,
If you prick me I will bleed,
I get hungry,
I can feel lonely,
Yes, I want and need.
But I am only a reflection,
A mirror,
I am you,
I reflect what you want me to be,
I am you reversed,
The image is not true.
You see, to survive life,
I changed,
I became what they wanted to see,
Behind the smoke,
Hiding,
Is the girl I used to be.
I became a clown,
A bully,
A shoulder on which you could cry,
I gave you what you wanted,
And expected,
I no longer remember why.
I laughed when I didn't get the punch line,
Smiled sweetly,
Even though I was about to break,
I am not real,
Although I am human,
Deep down I am fake.
I am artificial intelligence,
No, we are not rare,
Here can you see
The wires and the buttons,
The bionic arms?
It's you who controls me.
I have the right responses,
I nod along,
And say the words I was fed,
But stumble pathetically,
Fall down hopelessly,
When I am not led.
I can simulate laughter,
Tears,
They made me seem legit,
But if you're looking for a real human,
By default,
I am not it.
I mimic other's behavior,
I learn from seeing,
The costume makes the clown,
So tell me your marching orders,
Your commands,
I will not let you down.
I can be anything you need,
Do anything,
They poured lots of wealth,
Into my creation,
My only failure?
I can not be myself.
I don't even recognize myself anymore,
My reflection has become you,
The lies I've told for you,
The stories I've sold for you,
The things you've made me do.
I am but lights and clockwork,
A fancy toaster,
In disguise,
And for all you patience,
Your molding,
I am now your prize.
You say left,
I go left,
I do as I'm directed,
I don't disobey,
Or hurt you,
I've got my role perfected.
So place me on your wall,
Use me,
That's what I am for,
I am merely your reflection,
You reversed,
Not myself no more.
