^^ I thought this was really profound. I loved it and its quite sad that I can relate to it as well...

It is only after I have withdrawn
my eyes from her words,
and the cold shivers have settled
and my eyes wiped of fallen mist,
do I see clearly.

^^ amazing isn't it? How ones words can touch us so deeply and move us to tears and it can be someone we've never even met. I'm just as touched and emotional as you when it comes to moving qoutes or poems or movies even!

I too shall rise again upon the wings
of one woman's compassion and wisdom.

^^ This reminded me of the bible verse about we shall rise on wings like eagles...such a powerful ending statement!

There's one minor typo: one caged bird "sings"... More than one caged birds "sing"

Oh Lu, I loved this. I think we all have a poet, at least one, who is such an inspiration to us. Maya Angelou is an amazing poet and her poems are so inspirational. Sometimes their life and what they've been through also inspires us. I adored your words here! I loved how you incorporated some of her poems in here: "Still I Rise", "Phenomenal Woman" & " I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" - These added so much, the titles reflect who she is. Very beautiful poem.

I remember reading this in the challenge and I loved it. The fact you embedded the titles of Maya Angelou's work into your own was an interesting idea.

The fact that Maya inspires you to write such a strong and powerful poem is inspiring to me and makes me want to read more of her work. I see strength in you all the time, and by reading this it shows just how much beauty you hold in your heart, and how much wisdom you have gathered over the last few years.

This was a brilliant write my friend. I miss reading your words…this is beautiful. I think most woman could relate to this piece as I believe we all have an untold story. Sad to think we can’t bear it all and show our hearts but that’s just not how it goes. Maya is incredible – Tyler Perry put her in one of his movies and listening to her character speak in the movie brought me to tears because you know no matter the character she was speaking from the heart – it was truly beautiful and even though I felt like a total corn ball I have watched that movie a million times. You have penned a gem here! Great coming back and reading your script! Hope you are well.

The MM's are an inspiration to me and I thank them for always challenging me to write and for listening to me vent on the days that the sun doesn't shine.
