Treed

by Michael D Nalley   Feb 27, 2011

I have never chased anything I could not tree,
that's not to say that a few have not treed me.
Normally I like living life on the edge,
this time I find myself in a hopeless wedge.

This trouble started out innocent enough
before everything just got a little tough
That trifling squirrel climbed this tree with such ease,
it seems some are designed to go where they please.

I was born with four limbs and four powerful paws,
on each of the paws are five powerful claws.
I had half a mind to follow what I treed,
so now if only the rest of me were freed

You see what happens when I change my habits.
I should have stuck with chasing beavers and rabbits.
I can swim and crawl out of most any hole,
yet I knew one day that fate would take its toll.

Now I have been in a few tight spots before,
though this one is making my hide a bit sore.
While I was hoping for what is coming to me
I never thought I would get stuck in a tree.
