Nooses of time gently drape around our collarbones
Casting shadows between the hollows of our skin.
Like snakes they slide and constrict, trying to suffocate
Our shallow breaths and our shuddering bodies still.
Or else we are released from heights so very high,
That we gently break our necks. Without a chance
Of protest; that life is too beautiful to end;
That immortal virginity is real, not pretend.
And yet, with your soft hand tightly gripping mine,
I feel no fear staring into the eyeless void of time.
For we shall be the ones to close eyes that are full,
And with single bold breath demand ten years more.
Epitaphs will have no words, graves will remain unfilled.
Death will turn curiously toward us, but we will ignore.
Because when we are together, eternity is small.
