A Mistake

An unfortunate mistake,
With you at the lake.
Something was discovered.
Found out by your lover.

Questions were asked,
About what was our past.
I waited anxiously,
Fearing what could be.

When you returned,
My heart fluttered, stomach churned.
But things had changed.
This was not our normal exchange.

Is it my fear?
Or is it all unclear?
For you, I still yearn.
So much still to learn.

Do you feel the change?
Am I simply vain?
I fear all this pain.
Will we be us again?
